She is one of my favorite people and I couldn't be happier for them as they add a cute little addition to their lives. Brown Paper Packages

Remember how I said I love the line from the Sound of Music 'brown paper packages tied up with strings?' Well I wrapped all of our Christmas presents (sans the children's) in brown paper. The Christmas tags are thanks to my wonderful graphic designer husband. He hand drew all of them this year. They all look so stellar! Enjoy!

How can you not just be so grateful for that smile. It is the best part of my day when my children smile at me. And despite the difficulty of adjusting to two kids, especially two boys, I love them and wouldn't trade them for the world.

There aren't even enough words to explain how grateful I am for these two. They are precious to me above all else. (Don't worry I haven't forgotten the littlest one, he gets a post of his own.) But these two people are just so special, and their special relationship makes every day so fun. I love how much they love each other and can't wait till E can join in on the fun.

Today I am grateful for cloth diapers. I'm grateful for the help they are to our budget. I love how something that women have done for centuries has come back into vogue, and is easier than any of our grandmother's ever had it. They are green, and economical, and save baby from the extra chemicals in disposables. And they are CUTE! Convenient no, but they are more convenient than what my grandmother cloth diapered her babies in. So I am grateful for that :D

Gratitude - Day One

I have a lot of friends that each day are listing things they are grateful for. After a very difficult week I've decided to jump on the bandwagon of gratefulness and improve my attitude. Today I am grateful for Chocolate Zucchini Muffins (recipe found here) Now you may think this is a silly small thing to start with, and in some ways it is. But the reason I am grateful for these is because last night was really hard. E has a cold and was up pretty much all night, so I didn't sleep either. My sweet hubby skipped his class this morning so that I could catch a break. I was already up so I didn't sleep, instead I made chocolate zucchini muffins, and I got a shower. Both things to be grateful for on a very difficult day. Love my Hubby, and I love these muffins :D For a really good reminder of why we should be grateful go here. Happy Thanksgiving Month!

First Snow of the Season!

Yay! Winter is on it's way. I say on it's way because this glorious skiff that we woke up to this morning has already melted. That's Provo for ya. Sorry to those followers who have been anxiously awaiting a post. I know I promised one two months ago. It's surprising how quickly time passes with two little kids. Anyway I got to go see a great photographer speak this last week. His name is Keith Carter, and it was amazing. Needless to say it gave me the inspiration I needed to get out and shoot. And so did the snow! Something about the cold just gets me going. Odd I know. I'm sad I missed out on some awesome fall shots that I saw, those will have to forever live in my memory. However, I will try not to miss too many during this next coming season. Enjoy!

So for all of you who don't know, this is the reason my work has drastically slowed down. We'll see if it can pick up again when I'm juggling two kids, but don't hesitate to ask me if you have photo needs. I'm always willing photograph. It was interesting to be in front of the camera again. It's been awhile. My sister, whose learning photography collaborated with me on these. It was fun, and I look forward to the new addition to our family in six short weeks. Enjoy!

As I wrap up this series I have to take a minute to say that this is one of the most important things about myself that defines who I am. I say this because it's true. Knowing this fact effects everything else I do. I am a child of God and he loves me, so much so that He sent his Son to die for me. As you enjoy your Easter Holiday remember the reason for the season. Jesus Christ died for us so that we might live again. That fact should drive the things we do, how we act to others, and give us so much hope for the future.

Sorry for the short absence. The last few days have been crazy, and well it drags this out since this is the second to last one I have to post. This is one of the best things I have ever done, being a mom. I love my son, and I love my future second son and he isn't even born yet. Being a mom has been challenging, and hectic and surprisingly sometimes boring (but not often.) I think this image best represents the stage of motherhood I am in right now because though my son is adorable he never sits still, especially for pictures (he used to.) And even though we are almost always on the move I love it. Yay for motherhood!

This is one of the great joys of my life. Photography fulfills me, and my innate need to create. It is true that if you look through all the photographs I've ever taken a lot of them end up being flowers, so I felt that this was an appropriate image as it is one of the first I've taken this spring.

This is one of my favorite things about being a stay-at-home mom. I have time (at least most mornings, with one child) to make a yummy breakfast. Breakfast is no longer grab what I can as I run to class, or skip it entirely. Breakfast is not always leisurely with an almost two year old, but it is almost always yummy :D

Haha! Ok Mom I didn't realize this one was today. We were just talking about this last night. It is true I am a lister. I list and list and list. If something isn't written down it doesn't get done. By the end of the week I like my lists to look like one big scribbling pad as I've marked things off. It somehow fulfills me to know I got something done.

I have multiple cookbooks and a few fall back standards but for the most part my cooking is done on the fly. I rarely have all the ingredients called for, I'm always substituting something or doing without and yet my meals turn out edible. (I'll leave it up to my hubby to say how good they are.) I also tend to find my recipes online based on what I have in the house. Someday perhaps I will take the time to plan ahead but for now this is part of who I am.

Anyway, I write for the love of it. This is the truth. I am a sister of sisters. No brothers. Personally I love it, and wouldn't have it any other way. We are all super unique, and I love all my sisters like crazy. Sadly for years I have had to be a long distance sister. Who knows if that will ever change.

My Identity Project Day #1

This is project I planned to do over a year ago and never got around to. Recently another past classmate of mine started something similar, and our ward talent show was coming up so I figured why not. So in the last two weeks photographed this project. Each day for the next two weeks I will post one of the images until it is done. Hope you enjoy!

There are so many ways we identify ourselves throughout our lives. In high school my life revolved around music, in college my life revolved around photography. Shortly after I graduated from college I became a mother and was blessed to be stay at home with my son. However the sudden changes in my life left me wondering who I had become. It has taken me almost two years to begin to feel grounded and identified again. Here is my photographic exploration of my new identity.

I spent some time prepping part of the garden for winter and cutting back the irises. There were a lot of snails hanging out in the garden but this one was beautiful. And then when I was editing the second pic I realized there is a spider on the wall. I can't stop looking at it now that I know it's there. I'm not a huge fan of spiders but you know it fits well next to my beautiful snail :D

I've been waiting for it to feel like fall. Lately the weather has been so hot in the middle of the day it is hard to remember that it is September, now October! We had an opportunity to drive up in the canyon on Saturday morning as the sun was rising. The colors are beautiful and I'm sure will reach their peak in the next few weeks. The Rug is finished!

So some of you may know that I've been working on this rug for the last three months. I wish I had all the stats of how many jeans were used, and thread and hours and such, but I don't so just know that it is a lot to all of the above. When we moved into our new place I was struck with the desire to nest, and decorate, but to do it myself. This is the first of many projects planned. It is a denim braided rug, and it took a long time. If you plan on making one shoot me a line, because I could give you some helpful tips now that I've finished mine. But overall I'm am really quite proud of it, and glad that it is finished. Enjoy!

I was blessed enough to be able to take this family's pictures on Wednesday while they were basically just passing through since they are moving from Alaska to Nevada. Happy Independence Day everyone! I'm so grateful to live in such a wonderful country with so many freedoms such as the freedom of religion. We are officially moved, and settling in. It may take some time to fully organize and make our new place truly home, but we are excited for the change, and hopeful for the future. My family came down this weekend for a reunion and we got to do some really fun things, that hopefully I will get edited and posted soon. Don't worry I haven't forgotten about those bridals. It rained today. I've been meaning to photograph the blossoms for an ode to Spring, and just never gotten around to it. And surprisingly the blossoms are already disappearing. Today it rained and gave me an opportunity to get out, and photograph in the middle of the day. So here is my ode to Spring which is in full strength and on its way out.

I feel like dandelions hold their own, and deserve to be noticed. I also think it amusing that such a blue house has a lawn so nicely full of dandelions.

Ceramic Library

Hey all, so my friend Katie Jahner is having a ceramics show in the HFAC that opens Friday night. It's up on the fourth floor and it is going to be super awesome. It is a ceramic library. Basically you can go pick out a piece and check it out just like any book from the library. You take it home for 24 hours do something fun with it, experience it, recognize how you feel drinking from it rather than plastic or whatever, come back and return it, write a short piece about it in the notebook, and possibly check out another. Her work so awesome and everyone should go check it out who can. Either way here are some of the shots we took in preparation for her show.

This is adorable one month old Abby Slater. Her parents are supper awesome, and she is so much a reflection of them already. She is by far the best sleeper I've had yet during a shoot. She would wake up we'd give her her binky and she would be back asleep in no time. Isn't she just so adorable.

So we saw this window on Saturday when we were coming home from grocery shopping. But on Saturday the effect was different because it is an all white house and all the other windows have white blinds, and there was snow all over the yard so this one green window stuck out like crazy, and I thought it was so awesome. I went back today and I took these. Not the same as I saw it on Saturday but still cool.

This tree I've been meaning to shoot for two weeks. I see it everyday on my way to work. I find it fascinating that in the "dead" of winter part of the tree is still alive. I can only assume this is because it is right next to the house receiving warmth. None the less I like its spirit.

Yeah for engagements. This couple was fun to shoot, and fun to edit since they both have beautiful skin. I was so glad that we shot these at the Riverwoods mall because of the time of the year it added so much great color to these shots. This last Friday I was so pleased when I ran out to the lake and had these gorgeous clouds surrounding this tree I am photographing for my 'Dreaming Tree' project. I was also very happy to be using the schools wide-angle lens. It is my next dream piece of equipment to own.

I just love baby pictures. They are difficult to take a lot of the time, but they just turn out so cute. I enjoyed taking these because even though Jayce is only six weeks old he is all boy already. Jayce is the son of one of my friends from the ward. Hope you all enjoy.

Brown & Pulsipher Wedding

Final Shoes Theme

This has been one of my favorite projects to work on. We were allowed to choose our own subject this time and follow it through at least four images. I decided I wanted to show lost and abandoned shoes in nature that symbolized the act of the owner going on to have a deeper experience with nature without their shoes. They are all red because it helped them be more unified since I only had four images. My teacher wants me to continue exploring this theme and perfecting the idea. I hope that I can.

Finals Are Here Again!

Finals have been crazy this semester but not too bad. Here is my final project for my portrait class. It is a model portfolio, so this should help this girl get a job as a model. She was amazingly beautiful and so great to work with. If she was actually into modeling I think she would do a great job.

Bridals

This was an awesome shoot. The bride's name is Hillary. She is so much fun. We took these partially for her, and partially for my class. We kidnapped the couch (with permission) from the DeJong Concert Hall upstairs from the studio, and the backgrounds were just awesome. Over all we just had a lot of fun together. I hope all shoots can be that way.

Experimental Color with Added Texture

So this is a fun picture. I really enjoyed editing this one. We have a theme project that we are doing from now until the end of the semester. And every time I talked to my teacher about my theme (photographing shoes in nature) he would tell me I should do different objects like a couch. Now Cory and I have a itty bitty sports car, and hauling couches out into nature just isn't possible for me to do. Well one Saturday we were out photographing my shoes in nature, and guess what we found. This couch, just sitting there. So I took this picture to please my teacher, and it worked. He loved it. I will now go on to do my own idea of shoes now that I have appeased him :D Anyway I hope you guys like this one.
